If You Had to Give Up a Month of TV…

Files under Movies, Sports, Television | 1 Comment

Now, don’t get me wrong…I would never ask you to do such a thing.  I love TV.  But hypothetically, if you had to give up one month of TV, what month would you sacrifice?

If you answered August, you are wrong.  Dummy.

If you answered July, you are correct.  Here is why:

August:  beginning of college football.  For that reason alone you cannot give it up.

September:  beginning of the NFL season, baseball is heating up, college football continues, and some of the new Fall shows begin.

October:  college football, NFL, baseball playoffs, more new Fall shows

November:  football, football, football on Thanksgiving

December:  football and the 24 hour marathon of “A Christmas Story” on TBS

January:  football playoffs, college bowl games, “24″, “American Idol” begins

February:  Super Bowl, more Spring shows begin

March: three words…March Freaking Madness

April:  NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game, baseball begins

May:  NBA playoffs, season finales

June:  NBA Championship Series, baseball

The only major sports league playing in July is MLB.  Although the All-Star Game is in July and I love baseball, this would be the month to give up.  Not a whole lot of new shows on TV, the sports world is moving slow, and you can go outside more often and see all the new blockbusters at the movies.

Do you disagree?  If so, you are wrong.

Food Rants, Fantasy Football, Superheros

FOOD RANTS:

One of the shows I’ve been working on lately is “Food Rants.” The basic concept is that a person talks passionately about the food of the day.  The ‘rant’ can be positive or negative…just be funny.  If you would be interested in doing your own Food Rant, please let me know.  We are looking for people who can make 1:00-1:30 minute videos and be hilarious.

FANTASY FOOTBALL

I cannot express to you how excited I am for the upcoming Fantasy Football season.  Our live, in-person draft is this Saturday at Buffalo Wild Wings.  Football, friends, wings, and trash talk…it will be the perfect day.  Who would you draft #1?

SUPERHEROES

There are so many superhero movies that have come out or are in production, which is terribly exciting for a comic book geek like me.  I recently saw “The Dark Knight.”  I am not ready to make a judgment on where this movie ranks in the All-Time Greatest Superhero Movies List yet.  I’m going to see it again this weekend, so hopefully I will then be able to make that call.

Two other notes about upcoming superhero movies.  I recently saw a bootleg trailer for the new Wolverine movie.  First, it looks really good.  But more importantly, it looks as if they are finally going to put Gambit into one of the X-Men films.  It is about freaking time.

Second, the preview for “Watchmen” looks incredible.  If you have not read this book, quit reading this right now and go do that.  Go.

Disappointed

Files under Movies | 2 Comments

I am a sucker for summer blockbuster movies.  Each year I look forward to the outrageous big budget flicks that vie for my attention.

Tonight, my wife and I went to see “Hancock” with Will Smith.  To be honest, I did not know a whole lot about this movie other than what I saw in the previews.  I liked that idea of the movie - a superhero dealing with his inner demons, but still doing his job.  And for the first half of the movie, I was into this film.  Then “the twist.”  I won’t ruin the movie for anyone, but…WOW, did the writers mess up a great opportunity.

In other news, I bought a “Star Wars” shirt.  I’ve entered a new realm of dork.
